Transfer to UT Southwestern Medical Center

I am updating this site on behalf of Jeff and Leslie. Today has been extremely challenging. Following Jeff's post earlier this morning, and after a modest improvement, Leslie's condition deteriorated quickly. The good news is that after another 10 hour ordeal, her condition appears to have stabilized. I will provide you with a brief recap below. For now, we can say that your prayers are working and we ask that you continue to pray for Leslie's recovery.

The doctors became concerned when Leslie did not appear to be recovering from her surgery. She was confused, experiencing numbness on her left side, and had other issues that raised serious concerns. The doctors ordered a CAT scan, which revealed swelling and bleeding in her brain. Her condition worsened and the doctors placed her on a ventilator to help her breath. We immediately began to locate a neurosurgeon and hospital that was equipped to treat her and had the capacity to admit her. UT Southwestern Medical Center agreed to accept her and we scheduled a CareFlight transfer. Due to the weather conditions in Dallas/Fort Worth, all flights were grounded and the hospital had to locate an ambulance that could transport a patient on a ventilator. The ambulance arrived and we departed Grapevine around 1 pm.

Upon arrival at UT Southwestern, the doctors undertook a thorough review and concluded that Leslie likely has some sort of blockage in a blood vessel her brain. The good news is that she began to respond to questions, and regained some movement in her left side. She will be undergoing additional scans and tests this afternoon and we are very optimistic the doctors will identify the best course of treatment available. At this point, Leslie is stable and I do not anticipate we will have any more details until tomorrow.

It goes without saying that Leslie cannot accept visitors. She is in the Intensive Care Unit and will likely be there for several days. Thank you for your continued prayers and well wishes.

Feel free to post your comments. I am sure Leslie and Jeff will appreciate reading them after her full and complete recovery.
